When I get really interested in someone, I want to listen to an interview with them. I want to hear all about their life and work, from the beginning. I want to hear them tell me their life story. I want to hear them describe the challenges they’ve faced, the ways they’ve learned and grown. I want to hear how they make sense of their own life, in their own words.
I want to hear them answer questions—really good questions, the kind that come from being deeply seen, heard, understood.
Importantly—and this part is controversial—I don’t really want to hear very much from the interviewer. A lot of people like conversational banter with the host. Not me. If I wanted to hear from the host, I’d go find an interview with them. I want to hear from their guest! I want the host to ask good questions, and then get out of the way—to listen more than they speak, to make space for their guest to shine.
Maybe U want just such a conversation with someone.
Maybe there is someone you’re really interested in, who has done work and lived in a way that’s important to U. They inspire U, and U want to learn from them. But they are a contemporary figure, and they may not be especially well known. So there’s not necessarily an existing interview with this person. But U want to listen to an interview with them! U want to hear all about them!
I can solve that problem!
Here’s how it works:
- Fill out this form to suggest having a specific guest on my podcast!
- I agree that I am genuinely curious about them. I can only do a good interview if I am truly burning with curiosity about them!
- U send me an initial $100 deposit for the interview. This guarantees my time and attention to prepare for the podcast.
- I reach out to the guest about having them on. If U know them, U can help me secure their presence by asking them about coming on the podcast—otherwise, I’ll handle the invitation and scheduling.
- Once they confirm, I work with the guest to schedule a date for the podcast. Typical turnaround will be 2–6 weeks after guest confirmation.
- I generate interview questions for the guest. U get to share your input into what questions I might consider asking them!
- I hold the interview, release it, and share it with U and the world. U can now listen to an excellent interview, and share it with others U think would be interested, also!
- U pay me $250, or an additional amount that U feel the podcast was worth.
No ads. No marketing. Just pure, beautiful curiosity. U get to listen to an episode with a guest of your choosing, that U helped bring into the world! U become a benefactor of the arts, a patron of great culture!
Note that, I have a lot of boundaries about my podcast. These make it sustainable for me to create the podcast joyfully, and help ensure its quality and excellence. I still want to honor those boundaries. Please note:
- I reserve the right to decline to interview a specific guest.
- I cannot guarantee a podcast guest’s acceptance of my invitation, or their attendance.
- I reserve the right to reschedule a podcast if need be.
- Although rare, I reserve the right to decline to publish a podcast. In this case, I will keep your deposit but not require a final payment.
- By default, I will release all podcast episodes with a CC BY 2.0 license, unless otherwise requested by my guest.
